Childhood Trauma

ARE YOU LIVING OUT YOUR TRAUMA AS AN ADULT?

What is trauma? It is a deeply distressing or disturbing experience. Can you think of a time in your life where something occurred, and you are still living through that trauma? Trauma is also a wound to the mind that occurs as a result of a painful or stressful event.

Trauma is often the result of an overwhelming amount of suppressed and/or repressed emotions that exceeds one's ability to cope with or integrate the response connected with that experience.

Let us discuss a few different types of traumas that you may or may not be aware of. Most of these traumas, if not all, happened to us as children, which is known as childhood trauma.

What is the inner child? Is there a part of your subconscious that has been collecting messages way before it was able to fully process what was going on (mentally and emotionally)? It retains emotions, memories, and beliefs from the past as well as hopes and dreams for the future.

The inner child is the person’s “authentic or true self,” and one that is not necessarily shown in their everyday life after they reach adulthood.
